Traditional surgery typically requires invasive procedures through large incisions, followed by a longer stay in the hospital. Minimally invasive surgery, also known as laparoscopic surgery, means less pain, shorter hospitalization, faster recovery, smaller incisions and a return to normal activities more quickly. Many minimally invasive surgeries can be performed in the office or on an outpatient basis.
